Build a Super Column with Deborah / SLJ / Week 3

 -- SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY --

Task Description:
Malo e lelei everyone! Right here I have the Nano task for this week. This week's Nano girl task we looked into experiments such as trying different methods. And so by that I mean we had to make three different ways to hold something heavy, like a rock. We used things such as cardboard and paper. With the paper we made tubes, triangles and bent paper as the different ways that could hold the rocks. For the step it up activity we had to create a screencastify of our self making them. Check it out!

Thank you for having a go at the Nanogirl Super Column activity! I really like that you’ve made a slide deck with some really cool designs, and a list of all the materials we need to make it too!

  2. Mōrena Deborah,

Ka pai - thank you for sharing your video on your blog! You have done an awesome job, and I really appreciate your innovative thinking with doing a voiceover when your audio originally didn’t turn out the way you wanted!

I really like that, instead of just showing the final product, you’ve gone ahead and created it on camera so that everyone can follow along with you! It was so cool to see how much care you put into introducing the materials, putting everything together, and testing it out! I also really like that in the list of materials, you’ve put a warning for younger people handling scissors. This is very considerate and thoughtful thinking on your part!

What was your favourite part about making your nanogirl super column? I’m so impressed by how sturdy your columns were, especially under the weight of those heavy rocks!

You are a natural in front of a camera and kept me entertained the whole time, so thank you for doing such a great job! Because you have put in an outstanding effort, I am going to award you some bonus points for this activity!

Ngā mihi nui and keep up the great blogging Deborah!

    1. Morena to you Elle!

I appreciate this comment so much. This task had me thinking a bit before recording because I didn't really know how I was going to do it but overall I enjoyed it. My favorite part when making the nano girl column was the experiment bit and seeing if my structure was stabled enough to hold three heavy rocks. Thank you, I feel like over the few days of the summer learning journey I have gone more comfortable in front of the camera. Thank you loads for the bonus points.

Ngā mihi nui and Thank you!

    2. Kia ora Deborah,

It is wonderful to hear back from you, and Happy New Year! I hope you’ve had a great start to 2021.

You are most welcome, thank you for sharing your awesome work! I’m so glad that you enjoyed it. I think one of the exciting parts about these activities is that you figure out more as you go along! Especially because with creating structures, you never know how it’s going to turn out, which definitely adds to the anticipation of the final product.

Ka pai for putting so much work into it, and for learning how to be comfortable in front of a camera! It is so awesome to watch you all develop your skills during the Summer Learning Journey.

Again, you are most welcome - I felt that you definitely deserved them! Keep it up and I hope you’re enjoying the holidays!

      Mā te wā,
      Elle (SLJ)
